PORK COMMITTEE MEETING: ANALYSIS OF ASF AND MEASURES TO BE TAKEN

On February 25th, the Pork Committee of the Cooperative held a new meeting, with a special session dedicated to the analysis of African Swine Fever (ASF). The objective of the meeting was to deeply analyze the current situation of the disease and share with the members the most relevant information to address the sector’s challenges.

During the meeting, the market context for 2026 was discussed, with special attention to price evolution, the situation in affected areas, and movement restrictions. The content addressed in the recent meeting with the Ministry was also reviewed, highlighting the main conclusions of the presentation. Emphasis was placed on the importance of tackling this scenario with prudence and planning to ensure the health and sustainability of the sector.

The Cooperative emphasized the need to maintain the flow of sales, optimize costs, and strengthen financial planning to face market challenges. Additionally, biosecurity and control measures were reviewed, as well as the evolution of the sampling conducted, underlining the importance of enhancing precautions in farms to ensure sanitary safety.

Finally, the Committee highlighted that, along with the continuous effort of the sector, it is essential to continue reinforcing measures to control wildlife, especially wild boar, to reduce the risk of ASF transmission and prevent the situation from worsening.

The Cooperative will continue working to keep all members promptly informed and convey the sector’s needs to the administration as necessary.
